Why Okuley's

What makes our DME service different.

Equipment is equipment — but the experience of getting it varies hugely. Here's what patients across Northwest Ohio tell us has mattered most.

Insurance billing handled in-house.

Most chain pharmacies and big-box stores won't help with DME insurance billing or prior authorization — they'll hand you a phone number and tell you to figure it out. Our team verifies coverage before you order, files the claim paperwork on your behalf, and follows up with your insurance if there's a hold-up. You don't make the phone calls.

Local delivery and setup.

Lift chairs, hospital beds, and CPAP machines get delivered to your home for patients in our service area. Our team also handles setup and basic training so you're comfortable using the equipment before we leave. For mobility equipment, we offer fittings at our showroom or in your home, whichever makes sense.

Three locations, shared inventory.

Defiance is our main DME showroom, but Paulding and Continental both stock core items. When you order something we don't have in stock at your local store, we transfer it from another location — usually within a day or two. You don't drive thirty miles to pick up a walker.

You talk to the same people every time.

When you call about a CPAP resupply, a hospital bed delivery, or a prior authorization status, you're not routed through a national call center. You're talking to the same people who took your original order — who know your name, your equipment, and your insurance.

Insurance & Coverage

What insurance covers, and what to expect.

DME coverage varies dramatically by insurance plan, equipment type, and medical necessity documentation. We verify your coverage upfront — before we order or deliver — so there are no surprises at billing.

Medicare Part B

Medicare Part B covers most medically necessary DME at 80% of the Medicare-approved amount, after the Part B deductible. You're typically responsible for the remaining 20% unless you have supplemental coverage. Call us before ordering and our team will walk through what Medicare typically covers for your specific item.

Medicaid

Ohio Medicaid coverage for DME varies based on the patient's plan and the equipment requested. We accept Ohio Medicaid and most Medicaid managed care plans, and our team handles the prior authorization paperwork for covered items. Coverage details depend on your specific plan, so we verify before ordering to avoid surprises.

Commercial insurance & prior authorization

Most commercial insurance plans cover DME, though many require prior authorization for higher-cost items like power wheelchairs, hospital beds, and oxygen equipment. We handle the prior authorization paperwork, follow up with your insurance, and verify what your out-of-pocket cost will be before delivery.

When insurance doesn't cover

If your insurance doesn't cover an item, or if you'd rather skip the prior authorization process for a smaller purchase, we offer cash-pay pricing on most DME items. We'll quote the cost upfront. For some items — like premium upgrade options on covered equipment — patients pay the difference between the insurance allowable and the upgraded version.

How It Works

From prescription to your front door.

For most DME, the process from doctor's order to delivery takes about a week — sometimes faster, sometimes longer depending on insurance complexity.

01

Doctor's prescription

Your provider writes a prescription or order for the DME you need. Bring it to us, or have your provider fax or e-prescribe directly. Some items also require a face-to-face documentation form — we'll let you know what's needed for your specific item.

02

Insurance verification

Our team calls your insurance to confirm coverage, verify your deductible status, and start prior authorization if it's required. We let you know the expected out-of-pocket cost before we order or deliver — no surprises later.

03

Product selection & fitting

For items requiring fitting — mobility equipment, certain orthopedic supports, CPAP masks — we schedule you for an in-store fitting at the location nearest you. For straightforward items, we can move directly to ordering and delivery once insurance is verified.

04

Delivery, setup & follow-up

Hospital beds, lift chairs, oxygen equipment, and other large items are delivered to your home with setup and basic training included. After delivery, we follow up to make sure everything's working — and we're available for ongoing supply refills and adjustments.

Common Questions

DME questions, answered.

The questions we hear most often from patients ordering DME for themselves or a family member.

What's the difference between renting and buying DME?
Some DME items — hospital beds, CPAP machines, and oxygen concentrators — are typically rented on a capped rental basis. Medicare and most insurance plans pay monthly rental fees for a period (usually 13 months for capped rental items), after which you own the equipment. Other items, like walkers, bathroom safety products, and most supplies, are typically purchased outright. We explain which option applies to your specific item before ordering so there are no surprises.
Do I need a prescription for DME?
Most insurance-covered DME requires a prescription or doctor's order, plus documentation of medical necessity. Some items — like basic bathroom safety equipment, simple over-the-counter mobility aids, and certain supplies — can be purchased without a prescription on a cash-pay basis. We can tell you what's needed for any specific item over the phone before you make the trip in.
How long does it take to get my DME?
For in-stock items with verified insurance coverage, you can often pick up within a few days — sometimes same day. Items that require prior authorization typically take 5–10 business days depending on insurance. Custom-fit items and items needing transfer from another location usually take 1–2 weeks. We give you a realistic timeline at order intake so you can plan accordingly.
Will my insurance cover this?
That depends on your plan, the specific item, and whether medical necessity criteria are met. We verify coverage with your insurance before we order or deliver, so you know your out-of-pocket cost upfront. For Medicare Part B covered items, you're typically responsible for 20% after your deductible — unless you have supplemental coverage that picks up the remainder.
Do you handle CPAP setups and ongoing resupply?
Yes. We handle initial CPAP machine setup with mask fitting and training, plus ongoing resupply — masks, hoses, filters, water chambers — on the schedule your insurance allows. We can also help with CPAP compliance documentation that some insurance plans require. If you already have a CPAP machine from somewhere else, we can take over your resupply schedule too.
Do you deliver large items like hospital beds and lift chairs?
Yes. Local delivery, setup, and basic training for large DME items throughout our service area — Defiance, Paulding, Putnam, and surrounding counties. For destinations farther out, we can usually arrange delivery with some additional logistics. Our delivery team handles assembly, basic safety walkthrough, and answers any questions before they leave.
What if I already have a CPAP machine but just need supplies?
We can take over your CPAP resupply schedule even if you got the machine elsewhere. Bring the machine in for a quick assessment, give us your prescription, and we'll start ordering your supplies on the insurance-approved schedule. You don't need to start over with a new machine.
Can I return DME if it doesn't fit or work for me?
Many DME items have return windows, but the rules vary by item type, payer, and whether the product is hygiene-sensitive. CPAP masks, hospital beds, and items that have been used typically cannot be returned. We're clear about return policy at the time of purchase, and we work hard to get fittings right the first time — that's why most mobility and CPAP orders include an in-person fitting appointment.
