The Story
About this location.
Continental is where Okuley's started. Blaine Okuley founded the pharmacy in 1950 with the soda fountain still operating in the front corner today — a small-town pharmacy that doubled as a community gathering spot, which was common at the time. The soda fountain has been in continuous use for more than seven decades.
In January 1995, Blaine and Anita sold the business to their son Travis and his wife Kieu. The new owners expanded the store's services to include modern prescription dispensing, nursing home unit-dose packaging for the regional senior care facilities, disease state management, and durable medical equipment — all while keeping the soda fountain exactly where it had always been.
Today, the Continental store remains a working pharmacy serving Putnam County and the surrounding area. We offer prescription dispensing, respiratory equipment (a specialty Continental has carried for decades), home medical supplies, immunizations, local delivery, and access to compounded medications prepared at our Defiance lab. And yes — the soda fountain is still working.
