What This Program Is

A clinical pharmacy service that fits beside your medical care.

Three things make wellness consultations different from a standard pharmacy interaction — and clear about where they fit relative to your provider.

A paid clinical service

This isn't a quick counter conversation. A consultation fee applies for the initial visit and a smaller fee for follow-ups — the pricing reflects the time, expertise, and structured review that goes into the appointment.

Pharmacist-led, evidence-informed

Consultations are conducted by Kieu Okuley, PharmD — a clinical pharmacist with 20+ years of specialization in women's health, compounding, and integrative pharmacy. PCCA member since 1998.

Works with your provider

Wellness consultations don't replace your doctor — they complement medical care. We communicate findings back to your prescribing provider so your wellness plan and medical care stay aligned, not at cross-purposes.

What We Review Together

Your full picture, in one sitting.

The four areas covered in a typical wellness consultation. Your appointment focuses on whichever are most relevant to your situation and intake form.

Your medication picture

  • Full prescription listEverything you're currently taking — prescriptions, OTC meds, supplements — mapped for interactions and overlap
  • Drug-nutrient depletion analysisCommon medications (statins, metformin, PPIs, birth control) deplete specific nutrients over time. We map yours and suggest repletion where appropriate.
  • Things to bring back to your prescriberSpecific questions, concerns, or potential adjustments worth discussing at your next provider visit

Your supplement protocol

  • What's working, what's notReview of your current supplements — doses, brands, timing, and whether each is still serving the purpose it was added for
  • Professional-grade optionsPractitioner-only supplement lines — XYMOGEN, NuMedica, Metagenics — where they fit your specific protocol better than retail alternatives
  • Gaps and redundanciesWhere you may be missing something useful, and where you're doubling up on ingredients without realizing it

Your lab work

  • Recent labs from your providerWe review what you bring — standard chemistry, hormone panels, thyroid, lipids — in the context of your medications and symptoms
  • What might be worth addingTests your provider might consider ordering based on your symptoms and goals
  • ZRT specialty testingSpecialty profiles available through our ZRT Laboratory partnership when standard labs don't answer the question

Coordination with your provider

  • Findings sent back to your prescriberWith your permission, we share consultation findings with the relevant provider so your wellness plan and medical care stay coordinated
  • Compounded medication coordinationIf your provider is open to compounded HRT, BHRT, or other specialized prescriptions, we coordinate the formulation directly
  • Multi-provider patientsFor patients seeing several specialists, we help avoid drug interactions and redundant prescriptions across your care team

Specialty Lab Testing

Testing options through our ZRT Laboratory partnership.

Specialty hormone, adrenal, and metabolic profiles that go beyond what most standard provider lab orders include. Available through our wellness consultation program; results are reviewed during your appointment and shared with your provider.

Hormone testing methods

  • Blood spot testingEquivalent to serum testing for hormones, lipids, thyroid, Vitamin D, and key elements — with practical advantages for monitoring topical and vaginal hormone therapy
  • Dried urine testingCaptures daily hormone fluctuation over an entire cycle — useful for assessing patterns rather than single-day snapshots
  • Saliva sample (CAR)Cortisol Awakening Response profile — six cortisol collections in 24 hours to assess HPA axis function in detail

Women's health profiles

  • Menstrual Mapping ProfileSex hormone and LH patterns across a full menstrual cycle — for irregular cycles, PMS, headaches, infertility, or luteal phase questions
  • Fertility ProfileComprehensive screening for ovarian reserve and common infertility causes — LH, FSH, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S, SHBG, thyroid, and cortisol
  • Weight Management ProfileHormonal imbalances contributing to weight challenges — insulin resistance markers, thyroid, adrenal, and sex hormones

Stress, sleep & adrenal

  • Adrenal Stress ProfileDHEA-S and diurnal cortisol — for patients with chronic stress, fatigue, immune issues, allergies, or sleep disturbances
  • Sleep Balance ProfileCircadian rhythm of melatonin and cortisol — assesses the sleep/wake cycle dysfunction often missed in standard sleep workups

Targeted specialty profiles

  • Neurotransmitters ProfileNeurochemical assessment combined with hormones and elements — for mood, ADHD, sleep, addictive behaviors, and persistent neurological symptoms
  • Urine MetabolitesHormone metabolite assessment — useful for understanding not just hormone levels but how your body is processing them

The Process

From intake form to your ongoing protocol.

The four phases of the wellness consultation program — from your first online intake through the three-month adjustment period.

1

Submit an intake form

Fill out the Female, Male, or General Wellness intake online (or call to start by phone). We review it before your appointment so the consultation time goes to actual conversation, not data collection.

2

Initial consultation

Approximately one hour in our private consultation space. We go through your medications, supplements, recent labs, and goals — and put together a plan for the next 3 months.

3

Follow your protocol

The first 3 months are typically the adjustment period — new supplement protocols, possible hormone or compounded medication changes, and time for your body to respond. We stay in touch.

4

Follow-up visits

Approximately 30-minute follow-up appointments at intervals that fit your protocol — reviewing what's working, what isn't, and what to adjust. Findings continue to be shared with your prescribing provider.

Common Questions

Wellness consultation questions, answered.

The questions we hear most from patients considering a wellness consultation.

What’s the difference between a wellness consultation and a regular pharmacy visit?
A regular pharmacy visit is brief — picking up a prescription, asking a quick question at the counter. A wellness consultation is a scheduled, private sit-down with a pharmacist to look at your full health picture together: medications, supplements, recent labs, symptoms, and concerns. It's the kind of in-depth review there isn't time for at the pickup counter.
Is a wellness consultation a substitute for seeing my doctor?
No. A wellness consultation isn't medical care and we aren't your doctor. We don't diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, or replace your provider. What we do is review the medications and supplements you're already on, identify potential gaps or interactions, suggest tests your provider might consider, and communicate findings back to your prescribing provider so your overall care stays coordinated.
How much does a wellness consultation cost?
Wellness consultations are a paid clinical service — a consultation fee applies for the initial visit, with a smaller fee for follow-up visits. When you call to schedule, we'll go over the current fee structure so you know exactly what to expect before your appointment. The consultation fee isn't billed through insurance, but any products or supplements purchased may be HSA/FSA eligible.
How long does the consultation take?
The initial consultation runs approximately one hour and covers your full medication, supplement, and health picture. Follow-up visits are shorter — typically around 30 minutes — and focus on how your protocol is going and any adjustments worth discussing. Most patients return for several follow-ups during the first three months as the protocol settles in.
What should I bring to my first consultation?
Bring an up-to-date list of all your prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and supplements (including doses), copies of any recent lab work, and a list of symptoms or concerns you want to address. If you're working with a specific provider on a treatment plan, having their contact information helps us coordinate. Filling out the intake form before your visit lets us prepare and use the appointment time well.
How do I schedule a consultation?
Two options. You can fill out the intake form online through our Practice Better portal — choose Female, Male, or General Wellness depending on what fits your situation — and we'll follow up to set the appointment time. Or call our Defiance location at (419) 784-4800 to schedule directly. The intake form takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and helps us prepare for your visit.
Where do consultations happen?
Consultations are by appointment at our Defiance location only. The dedicated consultation space is set up for an in-depth sit-down conversation in a private area, not a quick counter visit. Plan to arrive a few minutes early; you'll be brought to a private space for your appointment.
Does insurance cover the lab testing or supplements?
ZRT lab testing through our consultation program is typically not billed through insurance — it's ordered and paid through the wellness program directly. Many patients use HSA or FSA funds for both lab testing and supplement purchases. Some specialty supplements have manufacturer rebates or savings programs we'll mention if they apply to what your protocol calls for.
