What The Lady's Boutique Is

A dedicated space for women who deserve dignity in fitting.

Post-mastectomy fitting, prosthetic selection, and compression garment fitting take time, privacy, and expertise. The Lady's Boutique is set up to offer all three.

Private fitting space

A separate fitting area away from the main retail floor — quiet, private, and unhurried. The fitting experience is meant to feel more like a thoughtful appointment than a quick retail transaction.

Certified specialists

Our fitters are trained and certified in post-mastectomy fitting and compression garment fitting. They've done this work long enough to know that the right fit makes a real difference in daily comfort and confidence.

Insurance navigation

Most commercial insurance and Medicare cover post-mastectomy products, but the specifics vary widely. We handle the insurance side — prescriptions, billing, and replacement timelines — so you can focus on the fit, not the paperwork.

Why The Right Fit Matters

A good fitting isn't about getting an item off a shelf.

Comfort, confidence, and recovery all depend on products that fit your specific body, surgery, and stage of healing. That's what specialty fitting exists for.

Comfort after major surgery

A poorly fitting bra or prosthesis can cause skin irritation, shoulder strain, and chronic discomfort. After mastectomy, getting the fit right protects the surgical area and prevents secondary problems during recovery.

Recovery support

In the weeks after surgery, the right post-surgical camisole, drain-pocket garment, or compression product can substantially affect how recovery goes — how much soreness, how much fluid retention, how mobile you feel.

Confidence in your clothes

The point of a well-fitted prosthesis and bra isn't just function — it's being able to wear what you want, feel like yourself, and not think about your fitting for the rest of the day.

Insurance is complicated

Coverage rules, replacement intervals, prescription requirements, and reimbursement schedules vary by plan. Working with fitters who handle this paperwork every week takes a meaningful burden off you.

Common Fittings

The fitting appointments we see most often.

Each appointment type is different in time, products, and what you should bring. When you call, we'll match the appointment to your situation.

Initial post-mastectomy fitting

Your first prosthesis-and-bra fitting after surgery, typically 6-8 weeks post-op once your surgeon clears you. Plan 60-90 minutes — we'll go over product options, take measurements, try several prostheses and bras, and handle the insurance paperwork.

Replacement & fit-check appointments

Most insurance plans cover replacement prostheses and bras on a set schedule (often annually). Fit-check appointments verify your existing products still fit correctly — bodies and prostheses both change over time.

Lymphedema compression fittings

Compression sleeves and gauntlets require precise measurements at multiple points along the arm. Fittings include selecting the right compression class based on your treatment plan and ensuring the garment fits comfortably for daily wear.

Pre-surgery consultation

Some women come in before surgery to learn what to expect from the fitting process, look at prosthesis options, and pick up post-surgical camisoles for the immediate recovery period. A pre-surgery visit can take a lot of unknowns out of the weeks ahead.

How It Works

From your call to a fitting that fits.

The fitting process from the first phone call through follow-up.

1

Call to schedule

Call our Defiance store. We'll ask about the fitting you need, when your surgery was (if applicable), your insurance, and any specific products your provider has mentioned. We'll book a private appointment time.

2

Bring documentation

Bring your insurance card, any prescriptions required by your insurance, and documentation from your surgeon about your procedure if relevant. We'll let you know what to bring when you book.

3

Private appointment

In our dedicated fitting space, your certified specialist takes measurements, walks you through product options, and helps you try what works for your body. Take the time you need — this isn't a rushed visit.

4

Insurance & follow-up

We handle the insurance billing on our end. If there are items needing follow-up or your products need to be ordered, we'll let you know the timeline. Replacement appointments are scheduled according to your insurance's coverage cycle.

Common Questions

Boutique questions, answered.

The questions we hear most from women preparing for their first visit — or returning for a replacement.

What is The Lady’s Boutique?
The Lady's Boutique is a private fitting space at our Defiance location dedicated to post-mastectomy fittings, breast prostheses, post-surgical bras, and lymphedema compression garments. We serve women across Northwest Ohio who have been through breast surgery or who manage lymphedema, providing the products, the fitting expertise, and the insurance assistance to get them what they need.
How do I schedule a fitting?
Call our Defiance store at (419) 784-4800 to schedule. We book fittings as private appointments so you have the time and space you need; same-day fittings aren't typical but are sometimes possible when there's an opening. When you call, let us know what kind of fitting you need (initial post-mastectomy, replacement, lymphedema compression, etc.) so we can plan your appointment accordingly.
What should I bring to my first fitting?
For a first post-mastectomy fitting, plan to bring your insurance card, a prescription from your provider if your insurance requires one, and any documentation from your surgeon about the procedure. Wear or bring a form-fitting top that lets us check fit. Most fittings take 45-90 minutes; allow more time for your first appointment so we can take your full history and find the right products without rushing.
Is my fitting covered by insurance?
Most commercial insurance plans and Medicare cover post-mastectomy products — including breast prostheses, post-mastectomy bras, and compression garments — though the specifics depend on your plan. Many plans require a prescription from your provider, and there may be limits on how often replacements are covered. We work with most major insurers and handle the billing directly when possible. When you book your fitting, we'll go over what your plan covers and what (if anything) you'll owe.
Are your fitters certified?
Yes. Our fitters are trained and certified in post-mastectomy fitting and compression garment fitting. Specific certifications vary by team member and the products we fit. When you call to book, we can match you with the fitter whose specialty fits what you need (initial mastectomy fitting, lymphedema compression, swim or sport prostheses, etc.).
What products do you carry?
Post-mastectomy bras (regular, leisure, and swim), breast prostheses (silicone, weighted, lightweight, and partial), compression bras for surgical recovery, lymphedema compression sleeves and garments, and post-surgical camisoles with drain pockets. We carry products from established medical brands; specific lines vary by what's working best for our patients and what's covered by insurance.
How long do I need to wait after surgery for a fitting?
Your surgeon will guide the timing. Many women come in for post-surgical camisoles or compression garments very soon after surgery — sometimes during the first week or two of recovery. For permanent breast prostheses and fitted bras, your surgeon typically clears you for fitting once the surgical site has healed, which is usually 6-8 weeks post-op. If you're not sure where you are in that timeline, your surgeon's office or our fitters can help you figure out what makes sense.
I’ve been managing lymphedema for years. Can you fit compression garments?
Yes. Compression garments for lymphedema management — sleeves, gauntlets, and gloves — are a regular part of our fitting practice. Lymphedema fittings require precise measurements at multiple points and an understanding of compression class, so we book these as full appointments. If you have an existing garment that needs replacing or you've been newly fitted by a lymphedema specialist and need ongoing supply, call us to schedule.
